MEET MARGARITA
Dr. Margarita M. Correa is a highly respected dental professional with over 35 years of experience in general, cosmetic, and sports dentistry. Originally from Colombia, she earned her dental degree in 1988 from the Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud (CES), a prominent institution located in Medellín. After 12 years of private practice in her hometown, she pursued advanced orthodontic training in Panama and Costa Rica.
In 2000, Dr. Correa relocated to Georgia, USA, and subsequently obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Loma Linda University in California in 2007. By 2009, she established Prisma Dental in Frisco, Texas, where she continues to provide comprehensive dental care to a diverse patient base.
Dr. Correa's expertise extends to sports dentistry, having served as the official dentist for FC Dallas since 2015. Her clientele includes numerous professional soccer players and coaches from teams such as FC Dallas, Inter Miami, and Orlando City. She has worked closely with notable figures like Oscar Pareja, Nico Estévez, Peter Luccin, and Fabian Bazan. Her involvement in sports dentistry underscores her commitment to optimizing athletes' oral health and performance.
A pioneer in integrating airway health into dental practice, Dr. Correa emphasizes the importance of nasal breathing over mouth breathing. Chronic mouth breathing can lead to dental and facial development issues and is associated with conditions like ADHD and sleep apnea. She advocates for early dental evaluations to identify and address potential airway and developmental concerns in patients of all ages.
In October 2024, she continued her education and earned accreditation in airway management, further solidifying her expertise in addressing airway-related issues.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Correa is committed to community service. She founded the Soccer Smiles Tournament in 2014 to assist low-income Hispanic families in accessing dental care. Her philanthropic efforts have been recognized by organizations like the North Texas Hispanic Dental Association.
In 2015, she received the “Innovative Public/Private Partnership Program Award” from the North Texas Hispanic Dental Association. She was also honored with the “Leadership Award” in 2016 for her contributions to the dental community.
Dr. Correa's work has been featured in various media outlets, including interviews on Tardes Colombianas and Movida Hispana, where she shared her inspiring journey in dentistry and the growth of Prisma Dental. She is an active member of The Academy for Sports Dentistry and has shared her insights at international conferences, including the European Sports Dentistry Congress in Athens.
Margarita is married to her husband, Andres for over 20 years and has three grown children, Camila, Pablo and Nicolas.
